Care
Care
Natural fibres reward patience. Linen, cotton, and ramie soften with time, wear in beautifully, and outlast almost anything synthetic when treated with care. The guidance below is general. For each piece, always follow the care label sewn inside the garment first.
The principle
Cool water, gentle movement, and air. These three things will carry you most of the way. Heat, friction, and harsh chemistry are what shorten the life of natural fabrics. Slow down, and the fabric will do the rest.
Detergent
Choose a mild, plant-based detergent without optical brighteners, chlorine bleach, or added fragrance. These ingredients are designed for synthetic blends and are not kind to natural fibres over time. A neutral pH liquid formulated for delicates is a safe choice for everything we make.
Skip the fabric softener. Linen and cotton soften on their own with each wash. Softener coats the fibre, traps odour, and reduces breathability.
Washing
Wash cool, on a gentle or delicate cycle, with the garment turned inside out. Keep loads light so the fabric has room to move through the water.
Sort by colour and weight. Wash heavier pieces separately from lighter ones, and keep whites away from anything dyed.
For your most treasured pieces, hand washing in cool water with a small amount of detergent is always the gentlest option.
Drying
Air dry. Hang shirts and lightweight pieces on a wide, padded hanger. Lay heavier pieces flat. Keep them out of direct sunlight, which can fade colour over time.
Tumble drying is not recommended for any of our garments.
Ironing
Iron only if you want a crisp finish. Linen is meant to wrinkle, and most of our pieces look their best with a relaxed hand. If you do iron, do so while the garment is slightly damp, and follow the temperature on the care label. A handheld steamer is a gentler alternative for daily use.
Stains and accidents
Treat any spill as soon as possible by blotting with cool water. For anything stubborn, oily, or set in, we recommend taking the piece to a professional cleaner who specialises in natural fibres. Home remedies can sometimes do more harm than good, and a good cleaner is almost always the safer choice.
Storage
Always store garments clean. Hang structured pieces on wide wooden hangers and fold heavier items flat. Choose a cool, dry, dark space, and use breathable cotton bags rather than plastic for long term storage. A cedar block or lavender sachet helps keep moths away naturally.
A few habits worth keeping
- Wash cool, wash gentle, wash inside out.
- Skip the softener and the bleach.
- Air dry in shade.
- Read the care label before every first wash.
- When in doubt, ask a professional cleaner.
